Watch Lyncs make an indie pop hit with an assortment of mystery sounds

“Oh, that’s gnarly,” Lyncs says as she processes the crunch of popcorn into a percussive layer.

For our latest installment of Mystery Box, we invited expert producer, instrumentalist, and vocalist Lyncs back to Sound Factory to see if she could make an indie pop hit out of nothing but the objects and prompts within our box.

Watch along above as she opens up an empty session in Logic Pro X, builds a percussive foundation sampling objects ranging from a bag of popcorn to a bag of guitar picks, and then adds a sense of space with plugins like PORTAL and EchoBoy in combination with Logic’s stock options. From there, she builds a pad out of her own vocals via Logic Pro’s built-in sampler, and then creates some additional elements using Craft via Splice INSTRUMENT and the Splice Sounds Plugin’s Variations feature. Lastly, she tracks some electric guitars, and then brings the whole song together with her signature vocals.
