Shoegaze

Shoegaze samples are defined by walls of heavily-processed electric guitar, sunken atmospheric drums, and vocals buried beneath layers of distortion. The genre emerged in the UK in the late 1980s and early 1990s as bands like My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, and Ride pushed indie rock toward increasingly immersive and effects-saturated soundscapes. Shoegaze directly shaped dream pop and chillwave, and its textural approach continues to influence contemporary bedroom pop, indie electronic, and lo-fi production.
