Post-Punk

Post-punk samples are anchored in punctuated electric guitar riffs, driving eighth-note basslines, propulsive drums, and cold synth pads. The movement emerged in the United Kingdom around 1977 as a direct response to punk's limitations, with bands like Joy Division and Wire drawing from funk, dub, and disco to build something darker and more experimental. Post-punk laid the foundation for darkwave, gothic rock, and synth-pop while its sonic vocabulary continues to influence contemporary indie music.
