“Attention to detail with every sound adds up to make a loop great,” Oliver tells us.
In the video above, Oliver returned to the Splice YouTube channel to give us an exclusive inside look into how he crafts his signature drum loops. Opening up his session in Ableton Live, he walks through everything from his favorite plugins to how he approaches sidechaining, layering organic elements, kick drum design, and more.
“I tend to process sounds a lot,” Oliver shares. “I’ll start with something, bounce it, resample it, process it again, put it on a keyboard, play it, and then resample again—I’m always trying to move forward. Hopefully I was able to give some insight into how it’s done… I always get excited when I hear my sounds in records because it’s like a sign I’m doing the right thing, and that people appreciate what I’m doing. I always want to make the best stuff and put so much into these packs, and hearing them used is like proof that it wasn’t in vain.”
