At Splice, creating meaningful connections between artists and the next generation of producers is a core part of our mission.
Recently, that came to life at the University of Southern California (USC), where students had the opportunity to attend a special session with KSHMR (Niles Hollowell-Dhar).
Titled From Studio to Stage: Inside the KSHMR Creative Process, the session offered students a unique, high-level look at how ideas evolve from early production stages to live performance.
Throughout the event, KSHMR shared insights from his journey, from experimenting with loops at a young age to becoming a globally-recognized artist known for blending cinematic elements with electronic music. He spoke about the importance of developing a personal sound, staying open to experimentation, and embracing the unpredictability of the creative process.
Students also gained a behind-the-scenes perspective on how modern tracks are built and refined, and how those ideas translate into live shows. Drawing from his experience across orchestral collaborations, touring, and sample creation, KSHMR highlighted how each part of the process contributes to a cohesive artistic vision.
The session reinforced an important takeaway for students: there’s no single path in music. Growth comes from consistency, curiosity, and a willingness to explore new ideas.
The USC event was a reminder of the impact that direct access to working artists can have on emerging creators—and the value of bringing these conversations into academic spaces.
More campus sessions like this are on the way.
