Beat Battle highlights from the Splice Discord (2022)

The Splice Discord has grown into a community of over 30,000 knowledgeable and talented music creators.

Members come to our server to share works in progress, get feedback on their music, discuss music creation techniques, and connect with other like-minded artists.

Our industry professional Q&As, artist livestreams, and weekly activations like Mixdown Monday, Feedback Friday, and Beat Battles have all become staples of the Splice Discord. As 2022 comes to a close, we wanted to highlight some of the Beat Battles, producers, and participants from this year that made our server everything it’s become.

The jetsonmade Beat Battle

One of our most successful Splice Discord Beat Battles of the year was hosted by none other than the platinum producer, jetsonmade. These were the samples that he curated for the contest.

Below, you can see jetsonmade reacting live to the battle’s top submissions:

The winning track was produced by buttermilk, who created a groovy beat filled with stacatto chops, tight basslines, and atmospheric pads—you can check out their submission at 11:20 in the video.

The SoundCloud NOVA Beat Battle

Earlier this year, we announced a contest in partnership with SoundCloud to find their next Nova Artist. Here was the Collection we asked creators to use—the chosen winner got to produce their own Splice sample pack, and had the chance to release an EP with a dedicated marketing spend.

The winning track was produced by Michael Bruner, who specializes in creating warm bedroom pop. See the video he created with us to get an inside look into his creative process:

Make sure to also check out the sample pack that Michael Bruner produced.

The Murda Beatz Beat Battle

Last but not least, we have the Discord Beat Battle hosted by GRAMMY-nominated producer Murda Beatz. Murda Beatz chose five samples from his Bandempic sample pack for producers to flip. The winning track was produced by GON, a producer who leans heavily into sound design to create one-of-a-kind textures that transcend genre.

Below, Murda shares some of his top tips for music producers that he gathered over the span of his career:
