Artist Stories: swooqy

This week we had an opportunity to catch up with swooqy . We asked him to tell us about his release Hybrid Trap Experiment” and to show us how Splice fits into his production workflow.

What inspired you to share this track with the Splice community?

Lately I’ve been making some stuff that’s out of my comfort zone and experimenting a bit and got this track. I don’t really think that it is good enough for release on it’s own, but there was definitely an opportunity for splice users to learn something. After all, I love teaching and sharing my knowledge to the community.

Tell us about your approach to writing and production. Any favorite sample packs or plugins?

I carry my laptop with me everywhere I go as I find myself searching for ideas in unexpected places. I am also pretty used to altering my tracks heavily before completing them.
If we are talking about sample packs my favorite is definitely Phonotix Pack. Its pretty small but all the samples are of extreme quality so I use them a lot. As it comes to plugins I am a big fan of Image-Line’s Harmor, you can get some really obscure sounds from it. Also I like Fabfilter Saturn, it can give cool texture to any sound. Furthermore, i’ll distinguish Serum and Synplant among others.

You’re primarily a Ableton Live user. What is it about Ableton Live that makes it your DAW of choice?

I really like the way Live handles audio effect racks. I can easily get a chain that has over 20 plugins. Furthermore, I can group tracks and put effects on the group without any routing stuff and other non-production related efforts. But the main reason for using it is being able to collaborate easily just because lots of people are using it. Of course Splice has helped me out a lot with this.

How has Splice had an impact on your production process or workflow?

I use it primarily to save my projects in cloud. Splice syncs all of my projects between two computers I use, that comes pretty handy. I can also send a project to anyone with ease.

What are your influences at the moment?

Latest Glass’ Animals album got me super inspired. I am also enjoying and taking ideas from guys like Goldlink, Flume, Kaytranada and Sam Gellaitry.

You’ve had quite a few users in the community Splice the project file for “Hybrid Trap Experiment” – what do you hope that they’ll do with it?

I hope they are going to learn something about song composition, sound design, maybe some mixing and mastering stuff.

Where do you think that you music is headed next? Anything that you’ll like to share with us?

I have no idea where my inspirations are going to get me, but I have never been this excited about my music so far. I can’t wait to share stuff i am doing right now.

We’d like to thank swooqy for taking the time to chat with us and for offering us some insight into his process. We’re looking forward to hearing many more tracks from him! Be sure to keep an eye on his Splice profile at swooqy for all of his latest projects and upcoming releases.
