Expert music producers react to Serum 2

Few music production plugins have been as highly anticipated as Serum 2.

In the video above, veteran producers John Grand and Devon Johnson return to the Splice YouTube channel to share their first look at Serum 2. From its new synthesis engines to enhanced modulation capabilities, they take an in-depth tour of each module and discuss their raw reactions to what the update brings to the table for producers and sound designers.

“The biggest thing about Serum, beyond just being a powerhouse, is the user experience and how clearly it presents concepts in sound design,” Devon observes. “That’s one of the biggest reasons why it’s the go-to choice for most people—you can open it up and create whatever you want because it makes the process easy and clear. Now, with expanded options, additional oscillators, and new engines, it offers a broader soundscape and more possibilities, while maintaining the same easy approach to complex sound creation.”

“I always felt like other VSTs and synths tried to keep everything under the hood, but now, you can see everything, modulate it, and truly get creative,” John adds. “That’s what I always loved about Serum—it made sound design fun, whereas other synths often felt like a chore. This is a major upgrade for the music production world, and I can’t wait to lock myself in the studio for a month with it.”
