Our 5 favorite collaborations of 2022

As musicians, we know that collaboration is one of the most exciting ways to spark new ideas, possibilities, and opportunities.

Whether it was Charli XCX and Rina Sawayama, Kim Petras and Sam Smith, or Drake and 21 Savage, 2022 was full of exciting collaborations. Though not necessarily in the form of a track or album, in this article we wanted to highlight five of our own favorite collaborations with platforms and creators in 2022 that brought unique content and opportunities to musicians around the world.

1. COLORS

Splice’s world-class library of Sounds has paired up with COLORS, the genre-less music discovery platform focused on spotlighting distinctive artists from across the globe. Through a unique sound pack and video series called DUOTONE, we’re celebrating the relationship between artists and producers by inviting them to work together on exclusive new songs using sounds from the producers’ exclusive Splice packs.

In 2022, we launched the first and second volumes of DUOTONE, which featured collaborations between Mike Hector and RIMON (using sounds from Mike’s sample pack TONE VOLUME 1) and P2J and Jamilah Barry (using sounds from PJ2’s sample pack TONE VOLUME 2).

See exclusive conversations between the producers and vocalists here, and look out for more DUOTONE collaborations and sample packs in 2023 and beyond.

2. D.O.T.S. / Kenny Beats

Splice teamed up with Kenny Beats for limited edition Don’t Over Think S*** USBs, exclusively sold on the Splice Shop. Each USB came with a special message inside, unlocking next steps to a scavenger hunt worth up to $12K in studio gear from HEDD Audio, AIAIAI, Soyuz Microphones, Arturia, Cordoba, and Auto-Tune.

3. SoundCloud

Since its launch all the way back in 2007, SoundCloud has been a leading platform for music creators and listeners alike for sharing and discovering music. In 2022, we were excited to announce that Splice now offers two months free of Sounds+ to SoundCloud Pro Unlimited Members, so that musicians can accelerate their careers to become what’s next in music.

4. Boomplay

This year, we partnered with Boomplay, Africa’s number-one music streaming platform, to launch Beyond Afrobeats—an immersive campaign featuring videos and beat battles hosted by Mr. Eazi and Sarz.

5. AIAIAI

Last but not least, to wrap up the year, we partnered with Danish audio gear brand AIAIAI to provide educational opportunities through Creator Class. Together with AIAIAI, we share the common vision of a future music-making community that’s sustainable, versatile, cooperative, and thoroughly equipped to navigate the music industry.

Stay tuned for an upcoming project in collaboration with AIAIAI to be announced!
