5 techniques for improving your drums

Many of us are guilty of overcomplicating our drums.

For most popular genres, the reality is that our drums can and should be simple at their core—we want our listeners to be able to easily identify and lock in with the song’s groove. However, that’s not to say that creating an effective drum pattern is easy or a process that’s devoid of skill and creativity, either.

In the tutorial video above, we walk through five music production techniques for improving your drums. From adding additional flavor to hi-hat rolls to making use of foley in creative ways, these ideas are sure to help you take your patterns to the next level. While we’ll be using FL Studio for demonstration purposes, you can easily apply each technique in any DAW of your choosing.
