Founder and CEO Steve Martocci transitions to Executive Chairman and Chief Strategy Officer.
Leading music creation platform Splice has announced that Kakul Srivastava has assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer. Joining the company from Adobe, Kakul has served on the Splice Board of Directors since 2021.
Founded by Steve Martocci and Matt Aimonetti in 2013, Splice has become one of the fastest-growing music creation platforms, with over 200 employees and more than 4 million users accessing an expansive global catalog of Sounds. The company recently expanded its creator offering with the release of CoSo By Splice, an intelligent musical sketch pad designed to empower music makers in sound discovery.
Of her new role, Kakul said, “In a world where everyone is a creator, Splice is building the essential toolset to make music. Human creativity is our most important resource and I’m excited to build on the remarkable foundation laid by Steve and the world-class Splice team to empower music creators globally.”
Moving to Executive Chairman and Chief Strategy Officer, Steve Martocci has welcomed Kakul into her new role. “Kakul is a leader for the future. She’s dynamic, operational, and empathetic, and deeply understands building products for creators. Kakul’s leadership will be the key to Splice accelerating growth, expanding its footprint, and becoming an iconic company.”
Splice Board Member, Matt Pincus of investment firm “Music” spoke of Kakul’s appointment, “Kakul makes magic happen for creative people; she has a unique understanding of how to make technology useful to our community. Artists, writers, and producers—from the kids to the pros making hits—need tech that understands how they work and allows them to be who they are and create the way they want to. Nobody is better at that than Kakul.”
Prior to Splice, Kakul was responsible for the end-to-end experience for Adobe’s $9B+ Creative Cloud business, building and scaling a Product-Led Growth platform across their award-winning web, desktop, and mobile products. Before Adobe, she was the VP of Product & Marketing at Github, where she instituted key product and business changes—including the most significant pricing model change in the company’s history—to dramatically increase growth in their core open source business and drive enterprise growth.
Kakul was the GM of Flickr and helped grow it to over 100M users, and as the VP of Apps at Yahoo, led the biggest re-architecture of Yahoo Mail. She has deeply held beliefs around the importance of human connections at work and creativity, which led her to build Tomfoolery, Inc—a company that built apps for the future of work. Their first app, Anchor, was designed to help teams run better through more open human interactions. Kakul was Co-Founder and CEO of the company, which was later acquired by Yahoo.
Kakul holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from MIT and an MBA from the Haas School of Business, and was named among the Top 25 Creative People in Business by Fast Company Magazine.
