Chakra on ARIA: Pushing Trap Into Darker Dimensions

Italian producer, artist, and sonic experimenter Chakra approaches music creation with a philosophy rooted in curiosity, transformation, and emotional depth. With the release of ARIA Ultra Trap Vol.1, Chakra presents a sample pack built from gritty textures, atmospheric tension, and analog-processed sound design that pushes trap into darker, more expressive territory. Before producers get their hands on the sounds themselves, we sat down to explore the approach, mindset, and experimental recording techniques that shaped this pack.

Our Interview w/ Chakra

Tell us about yourself – what led you to production and creating samples?

Chakra: My journey into production started with a relentless hunger for experimentation. I'm Chakra, an Italian artist, producer, and songwriter, and every morning I wake up with the same mission: to push sonic boundaries and discover something that's never been heard before.

What drew me to sample creation was realizing I could distill my experimental process into sonic DNA for other producers. I'm fascinated by the darker side of trap—creating harmony through gritty textures and atmospheric depth. With ARIA, I wanted to forge an experimental identity that transcends conventional boundaries while remaining versatile enough for producers to make it their own.

When I create samples, I’m building blocks that other artists can mutate and evolve in ways I never imagined. That collaborative aspect of music—where my experimentation becomes someone else's creative launchpad—is what drives me.

What are some of your favorite pieces of recording equipment?

Chakra: My core setup blends classic analog warmth with experimental processing. I rely on the Neve 1073SPX for preamp and EQ on vocals—that legendary British console sound gives me the perfect foundation. The Neumann U87 captures every nuance, especially when I'm pushing emotional performance.

But here’s where it gets interesting: I run everything through guitar pedals for texture and saturation. These pedals become sound sculptors, turning clean recordings into something gritty and unpredictable. I also use portable recorders constantly—capturing ambient noise, street sounds, and industrial textures that later become atmospheric layers.

The process: start with sonic purity, then destroy it beautifully.

Are there specific aspects of recording that are unique to sample creation?

Chakra: Absolutely. Sample creation requires a different mindset. I use a process I call "infinite resampling"—I’ll export a sound, revisit it weeks later, reshape it, and continue this evolution until it reaches its final form.

I record with future processing in mind. Multiple takes, different mic positions, pedal variations. Perfection isn’t the goal—potential is. I also capture room tone, equipment hums, accidental sounds—these imperfections often become the most distinctive parts of a pack like ARIA.

How would you define the sound of this style?

Chakra: Experimental trap lives between aggression and atmosphere. Punchy 808s and crisp snares collide with analog saturation and unpredictable processing. My sound uses gritty bass, haunting melodies, industrial textures, and ambient drones. It's about letting the music breathe—imperfections and all.

What makes this style of music special to you?

Chakra: Experimental music represents pure freedom. There are no rules. I can destroy a sound, reshape it, resample it for weeks, and let it evolve into something completely new. ARIA was built from that process—every sound has character, emotional tension, and room for further evolution.

How do you approach telling the story of this style through your sounds?

Chakra: Every sound in ARIA is a character in a larger story. Infinite resampling becomes the narrative arc—simple ideas evolving into textured forms with history behind them. The story is about finding beauty in chaos and harmony in discord. When producers use these samples, they’re adding their own chapter to that story.

ARIA Ultra Trap Vol.1 isn’t just a sound pack—it’s an invitation to explore. Chakra’s approach encourages producers to reshape, distort, and reimagine the textures inside it, pushing trap into new emotional and experimental spaces. Whether you're building brooding landscapes or high-energy intensity, ARIA offers the raw material to create something deeply personal—and entirely unexpected.
