Sigha makes sounds for your style to shine through

Heavily synthesized sound design and granulated beats leave plenty of room for interpretation. This is one of the elements that attracted producer and DJ James Shaw (aka Sigha) to shift toward the world of electronic music after attending a warehouse party in London.

Having studied guitar in college with roots in shoegaze-inspired indie bands, Shaw found himself surrounded by London’s burgeoning dubstep scene and working part-time in London record store BM Soho. Compelled to shift his focus to electronic music and sound design, he combined the basic drum elements of dubstep with the atmospheric sound of techno, while partly inspired by his love of early shoegaze and noise bands such as My Bloody Valentine and Sonic Youth to craft his unique sound.

He's continued to evolve this sound while exploring darker and more experimental directions. For this Splice session, we had the opportunity to see his experimentation in practice. Recorded at ARC studios in Amsterdam, Sigha brought in a modular rack to perform live sound design though a one-of-a-kind Phillips console. We processed all sounds through an EMT 250 and Space Echo. We then chopped up those sounds for him to use the source material for more loops.

The result was industrialized, gritty, future-leaning loops that sound as though they landed from another universe. If you want to feel like you've entered the Matrix, give this pack a listen. Most importantly, these sounds are meant to offer you the space to inject your own style.
