There are myriad multi-instrumentalists these days, but few (if any) can hold their own with Ben Wareham. A music educator and secret-weapon session player, Wareham somehow shows up ready to play anything he can put air through or fingers on. Whether on brass, woodwinds or strings, Ben’s playing is always tight and full of tonal tumult. For Hot Buttered Horns, he laid out melodic lines, rhythmic stabs, and thick walls of sound on trumpets, trombones and other brass, as well as every alto, tenor, and baritone saxophone within reach.
We recorded his performances with both a Shure Sm7 and a Bock 47 through Great River Pre-amps, with a slight dusting of CL1B optical compression to smooth the peaks and valleys, then cut them up into loops and one-shots ready for anything that needs some soul, from rap and RnB to reggaeton and cinematic scores.
