About the musicians
Josh Henderson is no stranger to the Splice community. He’s played on Motown Strings, Trap Strings, and Soulful Strings. As a composer, he has written for films and had several chamber works performed, including a Carnegie Hall premiere of his "A Bird Fell Today" by Duo Anova. Larger works include a full-length Ballet for Caliince Dance company, "Marie: Embroidering Survival", which was premiered at Alvin Ailey Dance Theater.
He’s currently the music director for the Emmy award-winning Damien Escobar (of Nuttin' But Stringz) and has performed at a number of events across the globe including a performance at the 2013 Hip Hop Inaugural Ball hosted by Russell Simmons honoring Barack Obama.
Additionally, he has built a reputation for his high-energy electric violin performances in genres such as rock, jazz, hip hop, and country-fiddle. He has embarked on the road with groups such as The Mayhem Poets, DIVAMANIA, Whale Belly, and the Chassidic Reggae group, among others. Josh teaches a course on improvisation for classical string majors at NYU and is on the Chamber Music Faculty for the contemporary music for the youth program, "Face the Music."
A versatile performer, Julia Henderson is a member of New Haven Symphony and the Sarasota Opera Orchestra, and has appeared with the Rochester Philharmonic, New World Symphony, Britten-Pears Orchestra, Aspen Festival Orchestra, and others. She is the cellist of Desdemona Ensemble, a chamber group that brings eclectic and exciting programming to intimate venues throughout New York City, most recently in the premiere of the chamber opera “Magdalene.” She has spent three summers performing and teaching on the island of Montserrat, West Indies, as faculty with the Montserrat Music Festival.
Julia is a dedicated teacher certified in the Suzuki method. She has taught with Juilliard’s Music Advancement Program and Sonic Explorations El Sistema program, and currently runs a private cello studio in NYC as well as teaching through The Trinity School. She plays weekly with Chamber Music Associates, an organization in New York City that gives adult amateur musicians the opportunity to play chamber music with professionals.
