This session was recorded at Aura Studio in Brooklyn, NY over the course of one day. Totally improvised, we focused on 1970s-sounding synths and grooves inspired by the cosmos.
Jason Matthews is a Miami-based keyboardist, composer, and producer born and raised in Philadelphia. After moving to Miami and graduating from UM’s Frost School of Music for music education and jazz performance, he began his career writing and producing music with his college band, The Politix. This eventually morphed into his current projects, Electric Kif and TWYN.
Since 2014, Matthews has toured internationally as a sideman with Cuban singer, Danay Suarez; British blues guitarist, Matt Schofield; Latin percussionist and arranger, Tony Succar; and pedal steel guitarist Roosevelt Collier. He has performed as a Moog soloist with the New World Symphony, Asheville Symphony, and Amarillo Symphony, as well as at world-class events including the Montreux Jazz Festival, Montreal Jazz Festival, Summer Stage NYC, and TED Global: Rio De Janeiro.
He has earned two Latin GRAMMY nominations for producing, writing, and engineering Danay Suarez’s 2017 LP Palabras Manuales. The album was nominated for “Album of The Year” and “Best Alternative Music Album” in 2017. Recently, Matthews has been touring and producing for his own bands, Electric Kif and TWYN, as well as performing and co-arranging for orchestras.
