Rare Rhythm Boxes pays homage to early studio beasts

Sure, drum machines like the 707 and 808 are legendary, and their sounds can be found in many variations in sample packs and pop songs. But we’re big fans of the lesser-known rhythm boxes, too. Especially the early drum machines that set the tempo for the instruments we use today. So we gathered some of the more obscure cadence creators we could for this sample pack. We recorded the Acetone FR6, the Korg Minipops SR120, and the Wurlitzer Swinging Rhythm at high-resolution through warm Avedis MA5 preamps, and the resulting one-shots could easily wake the neighborhood. Because these machines lend themselves so well to hip hop, we’ve also created a number of loops in the trap and boom-bap styles, which you can chop, flip, or use wholesale. We heard you like Kontakt instruments, so we’ve included those, too. It’s like having the real hardware, but it’s easier to sequence and doesn’t take up the whole studio.
