The Rise of PluggnB with AudeoBox

What is PluggnB?

Evolved from an offshoot of Trap called Plugg, Pluggnb incorporates more dreamy melodies and vocals along with hard hitting 808 basslines. You can often hear '90s R&B in the chords and melodies, and Datpiff-era Atlanta Trap in the drum selection and patterns.

We spoke with Young Fyre and Skimmy from Audeobox to learn more about Pluggnb

In your own words, what is Pluggnb?

PluggnB is like what it’d sound like if Anime, Jodeci and Sega Genesis joined forces lol. It's a breath of fresh air, especially when Trap's been riding this moody darker wave in the last few years. Pluggnb is the completeeee opposite. It hits different right away, it’s brighter and taps into this sweet spot of nostalgia with its retro vibes, yet it feels incredibly current. I mean, come on… who doesn't love a silky smooth electric piano from the 90s with a sweet, ear wormy sine melody?? *chef’s kiss*

What artists are working in this genre right now that you like?

Our top 5 are Cochise, Summers, Autumn!, Wintfye and RXI .. Honorable mention 9AM in Calabasas by Adrian - The Vibe is toooo good

What was the process like for creating this pack?

Our process for creating this pack is just like creating any other pack we do – We have a really thorough process.

First, we put together a list of music or samples within the genres that inspire us and then delegate it to our sound designers. Skimmy goes through each individual sample and decides whether or not it passes the “Skimmy” test.

If not, Skimmy will send detailed notes by each sample. Some things he looks for include: 1. Does the loop or one shot immediately feel good ? 2. Does it have placement potential? 3. Is the vibe right for the genre? 4. Is it a throw away sound or incredibly useful?

Where do you find inspiration outside of music?

Outside of music, we genuinely find inspiration everywhere, but honestly a major source of our inspiration comes from hanging with our community at NEXXT. It's a 1v1 beat battle game on Audeobox where producers can duke it out 24/7. Feels like new genres are being created everyday, so much so that we had to create a “Free smoke” category for people to battle in with no boundaries.

With Fyres and I’s 40 years of combined experience in the industry, finding new trends to stay ahead of the curve feels natural at this point. Just like we did with the emergence of Amapiano and Rage, Everyday, we're really blown away by these producers who keep pushing the envelope and reshaping the music scene. Being around this community of non-stop fresh ideas not only sparks our own creativity but also keeps us dialed into what's new in the culture.

Just last week we heard a producer do 6 drops in 1 beat in under 3 minutes!! Complete Mayhem in the best way possible.

FAQs

What is Splice Sounds?

Splice Sounds is an industry-leading catalog of royalty-free samples, loops, one-shots, MIDI and presets for music production. Browse sounds by genre, instrument, key, BPM, and more, preview individual sounds, search by text or audio, and download the ones that fit your track.

Are Splice sounds royalty-free?

Yes, every single sample on Splice is 100% royalty free, meaning they're free to use, even for commercial use. You can download samples on Splice, then make and release original music with those samples, and you don't owe Splice (or anyone else) any more than your subscription fee, even if your track goes viral.

Can I use Splice sounds for commercial use?

Yes. In fact, we can even supply you with documentation in case you ever need to prove that your music is royalty-free and properly licensed. The license for sounds you download from Splice Sounds permits use for commercial and non-commercial purposes so long as you remain in compliance with our Terms of Use.

Is my DAW supported?

Splice Sounds works with any DAW. Download samples and add them directly to your projects using the Splice Sounds Plugin (beta) or the Desktop App. All purchased samples are downloaded locally to your machine in .wav format.

Ableton, Fender Studio Pro, and Pro Tools users should use the Splice direct integrations in their DAWs for the best workflow experience, plus a rotating selection of free sounds for their projects.

For all other DAWs, download the free Splice Sounds Plugin (beta) to search, browse, and preview samples in your project's key and tempo. Then, subscribe to download sounds or create Variations.

How do Sounds credits work?

Use credits to download your favorite samples, loops, one-shots, presets, MIDI & more. All samples are one credit each. MIDI patterns and presets use up to three credits each. Unused credits automatically roll over to the next month. Keep everything you download, even if you cancel.

With our DAW integration plans for Ableton Live, Fender Studio Pro, and Pro Tools, you can license up to 100 individual samples per day by simply dragging and dropping the samples into your project. Once licensed, samples live in your Library, and you can download them at any time. With a Creator or Creator+ plan, you can also license up to 100 sounds per day directly in any of our native DAW integrations without using credits.

Do I have to download a full pack or can I download individual samples?

You can download individual samples on Splice, not just full packs. Every single sample, preset, MIDI, one shot, and loop on Splice is available for individual download, so you can only download what you need.

What happens to the sounds I download if I cancel?

Every sound you download is yours forever. Keep everything you download, even if you cancel. Learn more about our cancellation policy here.
