Switching DAWs: FL Studio producer tries Studio One Pro 7 for a week

If you’ve ever been curious about what the experience of switching DAWs looks like, you’ve come to the right place.

Above, expert producer Isaac Duarte returned to the Splice YouTube channel to share his experience around switching DAWs for a week, transitioning from FL Studio to Studio One Pro 7. He breaks up his seven days into a learning phase, experimental phase, and cooking phase, and shares his insights and works-in-progress at each step.

Ultimately, Duarte emphasizes that while switching DAWs can certainly spark new ideas, there’s no single workstation that’s objectively superior. “The DAW wars have always seemed pointless to me, because at some point, everyone just finds what’s most digestible for them and makes it work,” he shares. “There’s a famous quote by John Lennon: ‘I’m an artist, man. Give me a tuba, and I’ll get you something out of it.’ I think this quote encapsulates every creative person’s thoughts, because most of the time, we just want to make stuff regardless of how difficult or foreign it is.”

“The reward is in the process, not the gear. I hope this video inspires you and shows that if you’re creative, you’ll figure things out and create something. Also, the most important thing is to have fun—if you’re not enjoying the process, it just starts to feel like a job. With that being said, I highly recommend checking out Studio One. If you liked any of these beats I made with it, let me know, and if you didn’t, let me know why—I love feedback and constructive criticism.”
