Steve Aoki gives us an inside look into his studio and creative ethos

“The vibe is everything,” legendary producer Steve Aoki opines outside of the Neon Future Cave, his home-turned-studio in Las Vegas.

Equipped with a foam pit, skate ramp, and futuristic neon lighting, it’s certainly no traditional studio. “This house — I want it to be fun,” Aoki explains. “It’s a glorified studio, really. A studio with accommodations. I’ll be working with some artists or songwriters, and I’ll be like, ‘Let’s take a break! Let’s go jump in the foam pit.’ So we jump in the foam pit. I just want it to be fun, and I want everybody to have a good time.”

More than having the best gear or chops, Aoki believes that being in the right headspace is paramount when it comes to creating music. “It shouldn’t be work. The best way we can create is when we’re in a really positive mood, and when there’s no pressure. And then we’ll get there; we’ll find the hook.”
