Let me start by thanking all of you for the unbelievable support and involvement in this competition. The amount of remixes submitted was inspiring. I want to give a special shout out to all of you in the community who weren’t competing, but have been active on Splice and social media. By giving feedback, voting, and sending good vibes in general, you made this experience truly memorable.
Even though this was a competition, I don’t want you to forget that music is our first love – that’s the one thing we all have in common, and it’s what brings us together. The remix we chose to be the grand prize winner was the one we found the most exciting, and the best put-together track compositionally, and in no way was my decision influenced by popularity or votes. This remix resonated with both myself and the Monstercat team as being truly unique and stood out the most.
Personally, I felt Color Source’s remix had something special, although I can’t quite put my finger on what exactly. That’s the thing though, sometimes we can’t really describe why a song makes you feel something – it just speaks to you. What I also heard was the tremendous support for my original track, and the variety of re-imaginings makes me proud to be a part of this community. Congratulations to all who participated, you should all be thrilled with the endless possibilities to come.
I want to thank all of you again so much for getting involved in the competition, and I hope to hear more from you soon.
One of my favourite remixes was the GRAVITI remixes. This track is perfect for the summer time, and I particularly like the sped up vocal. The vocal arrangement was a little off in the middle section, but overall this version was definitely a unique take on the original.
Killabyte’s remix was about as close to a runner up as you can get, and was the favourite of a particularly notable Monstercat employee. This track has all the makings of a hit, and it was very difficult to pick between this remix, and the ultimate winner. Basically if two grand prizes could be awarded, Killabite’s would have been a no brainer! Great job!!!
Different Heaven, the community pick and definite forerunner in the contest overall, had a really interesting take on the remix; injecting a bright and upbeat vibe to the track. I really enjoyed this remix, and I know that the Monstercat team has been following Different Heaven since he first submitted to the “Televisor – Old Skool” Remix Contest. Congrats on winning the community pick! – Hellberg
