Introducing Spitfire Audio Originals, Craft, and more on Splice INSTRUMENT

Most producers own a collection of software instrument plugins spanning synths, drum kits, and emulations for acoustic sounds like piano, guitar, and strings.

Having individual options is great, but it can be challenging when you have new needs for your productions constantly arising that aren’t covered by your toolkit. What if there were one plugin that could support your ever-growing needs?

With the latest update to Splice INSTRUMENT, that’s a real possibility. We’re now bringing together classic LABS packs like Ultra Soft Piano and Hyperpop Synths, new sampling capabilities that integrate with Splice Sounds, and perhaps most exciting, the addition of Spitfire Audio Originals—including a 60-piece orchestra, a 50-voice choir, experimental tuned percussion, and flutes from around the world. Watch along above as expert producer and DJ Devon Johnson overviews these sounds and features, and see highlights below.

A new UI for Splice INSTRUMENT

The refreshed INSTRUMENT interface now features three separate sections for the different pack groups: LABS for the classic LABS packs, a Splice section for Splice-made packs, and the new addition of Spitfire Audio. The Free Drops section also continues to be available, where you can explore and download a rotating selection of premium presets, even if you’re not a subscribed user.

Spitfire Audio Originals

Since 2019, Spitfire Audio Originals libraries like Epic Choir, Intimate Strings, and Epic Strings have quietly become fixtures in professional sessions. Now, over 20 of these breathtaking libraries are joining the Splice INSTRUMENT library—see the full list and take some listens below:

Each library offers specific presets for further fine control over your performances—go to 1:24 in the video to hear Devon dive into the Originals Intimate Strings, showcasing both staccato and legato articulations. He also demos the Originals Intimate Grand Piano, where you can control idiomatic characteristics like hammer and pedal noise in addition to shared parameters like expression and dynamics.

“The controls are very powerful, but approachable,” Devon says. “It’s awesome to have access to simple and straightforward but incredible-sounding instruments.”

Craft

Beyond the built-in instruments available, Splice INSTRUMENT gives you even more control and endless opportunities for sonic exploration via a new feature called Craft.

Craft lets you pull in any loop from your Splice Sounds library and transform it into a playable instrument with multiple variations. You also get sound-shaping options to further refine your sound, and you can see the crafted tag in Your Library to revisit any preset you’ve previously crafted.

Go to 4:12 in the video to hear Devon put this feature to the test, transforming a flute loop into a playable instrument.
