The Astra synth plugin is a sound designer’s dream. Whether you’re just getting started or a seasoned pro, you’ll find the interface intuitive and easy to use. Its oscillators can be used for virtual analog, FM, granular, sampler, or wavetable-based synthesis.
This pack demonstrates what Astra’s virtual analog effects can offer. These sounds could be used as the score to a sci-fi or fantasy film or provide the foundation to a pop or electronica production. They could be used to create an ambient soundscape or lend themselves to a hip hop track. Most importantly, we hope you use these samples and the Astra plugin to experiment and create a sound that’s entirely your own.
To get you inspired here’s a quick look at some of the greatest synth experimenters.
Wendy Carlos and Rachel Elkind created a synthesized album of Bach’s compositions, bringing synth music into the commercial sphere. When Hollywood hopped on the synthesis wave, she was hired to score Stanley Kubrick’s sci-fi film A Clockwork Orange in 1971. This score brought new sounds to science fiction, creating futuristic sounds nobody heard before.
Laurie Spiegel created music programming software Music Mouse and reenvisioned Kepler’s Harmony of the Worlds sent into space as part of the Voyager 1 and 2’s Golden Record project in 1977.
Artists like Chrome Sparks brought this type of experimentation into the mainstream with the incorporation of pop and dancefloor elements.
