Broken Beats is the third pack in our series recorded at Red Bull Studios NYC.
Cinque Kemp is like a human drum machine spitting out beats reminiscent of J Dilla in his own, one-of-a-kind playing style. During this session, he launched into improvised grooves while leading a rhythm section comprised of himself, Rick Louie on keys, and Parker McAllister on bass. He set the vibe and steered the ship. The drum one-shots, loops, and fills in this pack are production-ready for any neo-soul, hip hop, jazz, trap, afrobeat, or disco groove-based project.
Kemp has performed, toured, produced, and directed his own compositions as well as in collaboration with Soundtrack 63, Macklemore, Flatbush ZOMBiES, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, James Corden's Late Late Show, Melanie Charles, Broad City, Pegasus Warning, Arto Lindsay, Ana Tijoux, Yonatan Gat, Nick Hakim, and Joakim Bouaziz, among sundry creative endeavors.
Recorded at Red Bull NYC under its infamous drumbrella, a Neumann u47 was used as the front-of-kit mic through a Neve 1073 preamp. There was also a selection of close mics that focused the sound further.
