Gong Textures

Gong Textures is an exploration of resonance, noise and transformation. Recorded at the beautifully resonant Pool Studios, this pack features a range of gongs including an 80” tam tam, pitched Thai gongs, a 28” wind gong, a 38" symphonic gong and a Chinese opera gong, all played using experimental techniques including using cello bows and a variety of beaters. We captured every shimmer and scrape using both traditional and contact mics, even re-amping synths through a Leslie speaker placed behind the gongs to excite hidden resonances. These recordings were then pulled apart and reassembled using granular processing and audio manipulation to create entirely new textures. The result is a set of evolving, abstract sounds. Deep, metallic and sometimes eerie. Perfect for ambient work, experimental scoring, or adding rich, organic layers to electronic productions. A sound world that moves, breathes and hums with tension.
