John Kunkel is a musician, producer, composer, sound designer, and label manager with over 15 years of experience in the music industry.
Born in Oakland, California and raised in Uruguay, John is of Brazilian American heritage. He began making music at the age of 13 and went on to form the critically-acclaimed electronic synth-pop band The New Division in 2007.
In 2015, he launched his John Grand alias to explore a deeper, club-focused sound rooted in progressive house, trance, and techno. Under this project, he has released music on respected labels including Armada, Enhanced, Black Hole Recordings, and Euphonic. As John Grand, his music is defined by lush atmospheres, crisp percussion, and soaring melodic leads, earning regular support from major tastemakers and radio shows like A State of Trance, Group Therapy Radio, and countless more.
John has also contributed as a sound designer for leading companies such as Sample Magic and Splice, and his compositions have been published through West One Music Group, Dynamic Music, and Sony Music.
