Recreating the bassline from Dua Lipa’s “Don’t Start Now”

Dua Lipa’s “Don’t Start Now” has one of the most undeniably infectious basslines in modern pop.

From the crisp tone to the playful fills sprinkled throughout, the bassline features various characteristics that bring a world of energy to the smash hit.

In the video above, we attempted to recreate this bassline using nothing but Splice’s new Astra synthesizer. While it might not be an exact recreation given the fact that we won’t be employing any sort of bass guitar emulation, we explore how you can use sound design techniques to create the unmistakable tight and thumping sound that’s at the bassline’s core.

Do you have a question about any of the topics covered in the video? What other songs would you like to see recreated on the Splice YouTube channel next? Let us know in the comments below.
