Behind the beat in Ariana Grande’s “34+35”

“Music is not difficult,” Xavi tells us.

“Music should be an extension of you, so if you’re okay and your energy’s good, the extension of you is also going to be okay and everything’s going to work out.”

Despite his seemingly carefree approach, up-and-coming producer Xavi is without doubt one of the most hardworking musicians out there. In just a matter of years, he went from independently learning beat making and cold messaging producers he admired to working alongside the likes of Megan Thee Stallion, Lil Tecca, and most recently Ariana Grande, contributing the beat to her chart-topping single “34+35.”

In the video above, Xavi sat down with us to tell the Splice community about how he produced the beat to “34+35,” the moment he came up with the song’s playful title, what to focus on when striving to get placements in pop music, and more.
