Meet Viiq, a singer-songwriter from New Jersey with a love for creating bold, experimental sounds. Inspired by childhood icons like the Cheetah Girls, her passion for music blossomed during her college years, evolving into her unique brand of hyperpop—a genre she loves for its limitless creative potential and boundary-pushing energy.
In her journey, Viiq has learned to embrace her versatility, moving beyond her classical training to create music that feels authentic and exciting to her. Her latest sample pack reflects this mindset, featuring dynamic hooks designed to spark creativity. Crafted with a balance of thoughtful structure and open-ended freedom, the pack invites producers to deconstruct, rearrange, and "completely fuck it up."
Sooo… introductions are in order. Tell the people who you are and where you’re from.
Hi, I’m Viiq. I am a singer songwriter and I am from New Jersey.
Everyone loves a good origin story. When and where did your love for music start?
I always knew I wanted to be like a singer. I love the cheetah girls growing up and I really liked the idea of being a famous person but as I got older, I thought oh I kind of actually really like music itself so I started doing more experimental production in college that has evolved now into making hyperpop because… I don’t know. I love pitching my voice up and down and like screaming on a track putting some weird sounds just like scratches really nicely.
Would love to get your take on hyperpop. It’s a genre that’s really taken on a life of its own in the past couple years. What about it appeals to Viiq?
I think hyperpop as a genre kind of… there’s place for everything. It’s kind of a broad genre, which is why I like it so much I don’t think you can go back after hearing something like that knowing that sound is able to come out of the machine.
What’s one thing you’ve learned about yourself in your music journey through the years?
I used to be such a vocal purist like I thought because I’m classically trained. I should only do like really complicated piano music and on top of it because that’s just what I do know but I like other types of music and I like to make other types of music so I started kind of just making what I want to hear instead and that’s always going to change.
In listening to your pack, one of the first things we noticed was that there were a lot of hooks that were both musical and practical. Was that intentional?
I wanted to make hooks that were big enough that people could take it and rearrange it or like apply it to other things, but I didn’t want them to be meaningless so it was kind of a balance of like mathematical thinking and like creative thinking to try and get the best variety. I think a lot of these I wanted to leave open and vague enough that you can fuck with it.
Who is this pack for and what is your hope for the creator on the other side, downloading this pack?
Through a lot of collaborations. I realized I am the songwriter girl like that’s my strength so I think it could be useful to anybody who produces but doesn’t sound right I hope that people take the chorus and chop it up in versus or you could even take like one word one thing and one word of another sample and combine them you know just want people to completely fuck it up.
