The dance grooves of West Africa

Andre Toungamani has been playing the drums since he was three years old. For this pack, he met up with As Malick Diouf on the guitar and Papy Tall on bass at Laboutique Studios in Senegal. The three musicians spent the day improvising grooves inspired by various West African cultures. They started out playing gospel-inspired rhythms but quickly pivoted to African-style playing, focusing on the rhythms of Macossa, Bicossi, Mbalax, and Sebene. In this pack, you’ll find the rhythms of Nigeria, Congo, Mali, Niger, and Guinea.
