Pia Salvia Explains the Complexity of the Harp

Pia Salvia is an award-winning Belgian harpist and vocalist who's approach is unique in the world of modern harp. Salvia started playing the harp at the early age of 6 – she had been classically trained for 10 years and later on decided to dedicate her life to changing the function of the harp in music. She is one of those artists who incorporate the classical harp in various styles of music outside of the classic tradition. She composes, arranges and performs original compositions that feature the harp in different settings and styles of music, which made her approach to making a sample pack more compelling.

Pia's unique approach of applying a classical while also upending the classical norms results in interesting styles and unusual techniques which are on full display in her pack Daydreams: Ethereal Harp. Beyond the harp, this pack is an imaginary sonic realm of glossy and mesmerizing sounds including rare percussion bells, saws, chimes, and treated piano that compliment the dreamy harp landscape.

Watch as Salvia explains how a harp fundamentally works, its unique mechanism of tuning that can change the tonalities in order to use accidentals, and why she fell in love with this complex instrument.
