The Arthouse Acoustics team created full compositions from scratch for this pack, plus their own resampled loops, varying their techniques to give you the freedom to use the sounds however you like. They use live instruments and work with professional musicians who are out gigging regularly and are masters in their respective genres. For this edition of Motor City Soul, they hit up some of their favorite jazz clubs to source the best musicians they could find, sometimes even playing with them.
The production team built everything from the ground up for this pack, writing chord progressions and melodies to form full compositions. Then they worked closely with professional musicians in the studio, sometimes writing as they recorded, sometimes giving them creative license to improvise, which is where some of the more interesting content came from. The Athouse Acoustics team enjoys watching the musicians be free with their creativity, and then applying their own creative license to their production techniques. The musicians do their thing, while Arthouse holds the vision and brings everything full circle.
For this pack, the result of that process typifies the early jazz genre, conjuring up the image of being in a smoky, dimly-lit room watching a band of musicians do what they love. The creation and process of this pack were heavily influenced by J Dilla and the Detroit sound, as the name suggests. The Arthouse team wanted to create authentic jazz samples to chop and resample, and to provide producers with these original compositions to rework however they like.
Although the chopped loops in this collection definitely suit boom bap, we’ve heard sounds from previous Motor City Soul releases being used in everything from drill to pop to RnB. Alongside the traditional chopped loops, Arthouse has included heavily effected skewed loops that could fit into just about any genre, whether as a texture or a main feature.
