In this entry of <a href=\"https:\/\/splice.com\/blog\/tag\/one-shots\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>One Shots<\/em>,<\/a> let\u2019s take a listen to Quincy Jones\u2019 \u201cIronside\u201d and explore how the song, popularized by <em>Kill Bill<\/em>, became one of trap music\u2019s most iconic samples.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Ironside (Theme From &quot;Ironside&quot;)\" width=\"370\" height=\"278\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fdXoDwGQT78?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Quincy Jones was originally commissioned to create the theme for <em>Ironside<\/em>, an NBC cop drama starring Raymond Burr. The most famous placement of this track, however, was undoubtedly in the two volumes of Quentin Tarantino\u2019s <em>Kill Bill<\/em>, released in 1993 and 1994. The song played whenever The Bride saw an enemy from her past, paired with a dramatic zoom in.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Kill Bill : Volume 1 &amp; 2 - Everytime The Bride sees her Enemy ~ Ironside!\" width=\"370\" height=\"208\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/cKz4NxpFW5I?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The theme has been sampled countless times since &#8211; below, we highlight some of the biggest tracks that borrowed it.<\/p>\n<h2>Future &#8211; &#8220;F*ck Up Some Commas&#8221;<\/h2>\n<p><iframe title=\"Future - F*ck Up Some Commas (Audio)\" width=\"370\" height=\"208\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/z0G04bgZHwc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>TM88 of 808 Mafia, alongside Southside, was one of the first to use the &#8220;Ironside&#8221; sample. \u201cOn the mainstream level,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefader.com\/2015\/06\/10\/beat-construction-tm88\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">TM88 told The Fader,<\/a> \u201cit took off with \u2018Commas.\u2019\u201d He elaborated on finding the sample. \u201cEvery time something happens in <em>Kill Bill<\/em>, that little noise just comes out of nowhere. We were like, \u2018What the f*ck, that shit is crazy.\u2019 It just psyches your mind out or some shit &#8211; it gets you real amped, and ready for the fight, like some real ill shit finna happen!\u201d One of the most popular uses of the sample, Future\u2019s breakout track was first released on the 2014 <em>Monster<\/em> mixtape and later as the lead single for <em>DS2<\/em>. The \u201cIronside\u201d sample lands on every down beat, establishing the siren sound as a quintessential element of trap music.<\/p>\n<h2>2Pac &#8211; &#8220;Guess Who\u2019s Back&#8221;<\/h2>\n<p><iframe title=\"Guess Who&#039;s Back\" width=\"370\" height=\"278\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Im36pPDtbW8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The 5th track off his 1993 sophomore album <em>Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z\u2026<\/em>, \u201cGuess Who\u2019s Back\u201d was produced by 2Pac himself, Special Ed, and Akshun. The track is one of the earliest use cases of \u201cIronside\u201d &#8211; hear how the sample pops up twelve seconds in.<\/p>\n<h2>Sean Paul &#8211; &#8220;Breakout&#8221;<\/h2>\n<p><iframe title=\"Breakout\" width=\"370\" height=\"278\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/5KbfErQ3SsA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Sean Paul\u2019s \u201cBreakout\u201d is a track off his 2005 dancehall classic <em>The Trinity<\/em> that also borrows the &#8220;Ironside&#8221; sample &#8211; hear it right at the beginning of the song.<\/p>\n<h2>Knife Party &#8211; &#8220;Bonfire&#8221;<\/h2>\n<p><iframe title=\"Knife Party - &#039;Bonfire&#039;\" width=\"370\" height=\"208\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/e-IWRmpefzE?start=86&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>If you blink you might miss it; the \u201cIronside\u201d sample subtly plays in the background of this <a href=\"https:\/\/splice.com\/blog\/what-is-dubstep-music\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dubstep<\/a> classic by Knife Party at the 1:28 mark, pitched up by a few semitones.<\/p>\n<h2>Beyonc\u00e9 &#8211; &#8220;Diva&#8221; (Live)<\/h2>\n<p><iframe title=\"Diva (Homecoming Live)\" width=\"370\" height=\"278\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/yN8ojpkwYps?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Beyonc\u00e9\u2019s <em>Homecoming<\/em> documentary and live album not only chronicle the immense dedication she puts in her work, but also serve as an immersive revisit to her greatest work. The live rendition of \u201cDiva\u201d from Coachella 2018 features a new intro that interpolates the \u201cIronside\u201d sample.<\/p>\n<h2>Drake &amp; Future &#8211; &#8220;I\u2019m the Plug&#8221;<\/h2>\n<p><iframe title=\"I&#039;m The Plug\" width=\"370\" height=\"278\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/NojIVCHAyh8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m the Plug,\u201d a song off of Drake and Future&#8217;s collaborative record<em> What A Time To Be Alive<\/em>, is another iconic Future track produced by Southside. The \u201cIronside\u201d sample remains a staple of the 808 Mafia sound &#8211; hear it in the intro of &#8220;I&#8217;m the Plug.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>The Weeknd &#8211; &#8220;Hurt You feat. Gesaffelstein&#8221;<\/h2>\n<p><iframe title=\"The Weeknd - Hurt You feat.
