Yoko Shimomura<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/splice.com\/blog\/yoko-shimomura-video-game-music\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Yoko Shimomura<\/a> has been crafting the soundtrack to countless childhoods for decades. One could even call the epic, classically-inspired sounds of the <em>Kingdom Hearts<\/em>, <em>Parasite Eve<\/em>, and <em>Street Fighter II<\/em> themes to be \u201cperfect.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a male-dominated video game industry, Shimomura carved her own lane and cemented her place in soundtrack history through her work at developers Capcom and Square Enix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"SEP E3 2014 - Day 2 [#03] - SQUARE ENIX MUSIC PRESENTS -Yoko Shimomura-\" width=\"370\" height=\"208\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/M0eArndfJIo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Ravi Shankar<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Legendary sitar player Ravi Shankar was without doubt one of India\u2019s greatest musical virtuosos. Shankar was an innovator who developed a new notation system for sitar, a prolific composer for Indian films, and an ambassador for introducing Indian music overseas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His work with two young semi-apprentices\u2014George Harrison of The Beatles and legendary composer Philip Glass\u2014was profoundly influential on both popular and classical music. Lea Salonga<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Filipina singer and actress Lea Salonga is world-renowned for her powerful voice and perfect pitch. Best known for her award-winning role in <em>Miss Saigon<\/em>, Salonga is the singing voice behind Princess Jasmin in <em>Aladdin<\/em> and Fa Mulan in <em>Mulan<\/em>, and was also the first Asian person to play \u00c9ponine in the musical <em>Les Mis\u00e9rables<\/em> on Broadway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In her 45-year career, Lea has performed for six Philippine presidents, four American presidents, and for Diana, Princess of Wales and Queen Elizabeth II.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"I Dreamed a Dream (Lea Salonga) | Les Mis\u00e9rables in Concert: The 25th Anniversary | TUNE\" width=\"370\" height=\"208\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ezqPJYJ-s7Y?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Joseph Kekuku<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A world-touring guitarist, Joseph Kekuku invented the steel guitar in his high school dorm in Hawaii when he was just a teenager. Teddy Park<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Teddy Park is the producer behind some of Korea&#8217;s biggest hits. Park was signed by YG Entertainment as a teenager, and after his debut group 1TYM went on a hiatus in 2006, he became the producer for other YG artists like BIGBANG, 2NE1, LeeHi, and Kang Seung Yoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2017, Park began working with BLACKPINK, producing and writing some of their greatest hits like &#8220;WHISTLE,&#8221; &#8220;DDU-DU DDU-DU,&#8221; and &#8220;How You Like That,&#8221; as well as many of the group members&#8217; solo projects like &#8220;On The Ground&#8221; and &#8220;LALISA.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Meet Teddy - The Brains Behind BLACKPINK&#039;s Music\" width=\"370\" height=\"208\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/B04IoKW3aSk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">6. Phuong T\u00e2m<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Known as Vietnam\u2019s &#8216;first rock \u2019n\u2019 roll recording artist,&#8217; Phuong T\u00e2m became a sensation in Saigon in the 1960s, but stepped away from music after moving to the United States in 1975.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Decades later, 27 of her recorded songs were found by T\u00e2m&#8217;s daughter Hannah H\u00e0, featuring T\u00e2m singing original rock songs written and performed by Vietnamese musicians. The resulting compilation called <em>Magical Nights<\/em> features 25 of T\u00e2m&#8217;s recordings in an effort to recover a lost era of early Vietnamese rock music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Phuong Tam&#039;s daughter discovers mother&#039;s past as &#039;Vietnam\u2019s first rock star&#039;\" width=\"370\" height=\"208\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/13JvlTaCM20?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">7. Nujabes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Last but not least, a pioneer of <a href=\"https:\/\/splice.com\/blog\/how-to-make-lofi-music\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">lo-fi hip hop,<\/a> Nujabes was known for his atmospheric instrumental mixes of hip hop, soul, and jazz samples, blended with elements of trip hop, breakbeat, downtempo, and ambient music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Along with his incredible work on the anime series <em>Samurai Champloo<\/em>, Nujabes solidified his legacy as a producer with several critically acclaimed albums like <em>Metaphorical Music<\/em> and <em>Modal Soul<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"How Nujabes Influenced Lo-Fi Hip-Hop | Genius News\" width=\"370\" height=\"208\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wEo9mGWk6RA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>And there you have it!
