Using Smart Tempo<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you find a sample you love but your project is set to a different BPM, dragging it in will change your project tempo to match the sample. To fix this, hit <strong>Option+P,<\/strong> go to <strong>Smart Tempo,<\/strong> and choose <strong>On + Align Bars and Beats<\/strong> for <strong>Set New Recordings To:<\/strong> and<strong> Set Imported Files To:.<\/strong> Now, when you drag in a sample, it&#8217;ll automatically conform to the BPM of your project instead of the other way around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Go to <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/BTDZklTJR0c?si=PwDti-m_PmhUbFbm&amp;t=7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">0:07 in the tutorial<\/a> to see this tip in action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Drum replacement or doubling from a loop<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you <a href=\"https:\/\/splice.com\/sounds\/instruments\/drums\/samples?asset_category_slug=loop\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">find a drum loop you like<\/a> and drag it into your project, pressing <strong>Control+D <\/strong>will open a window that lets you double the kick with a stock Logic instrument sound. Logic Pro automatically figures out the <a href=\"https:\/\/splice.com\/blog\/what-is-midi-in-music\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MIDI,<\/a> and from there you can easily audition different kicks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A helpful trick here\u2014highlight a region and press <strong>U<\/strong> to automatically cycle it while you&#8217;re auditioning. Multi-select samples<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re importing samples into your project using a tool like <a href=\"https:\/\/splice.com\/tools\/desktop\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the Splice desktop app,<\/a> go to your Likes collection, filter by one-shots, and select a key. You can then select multiple samples by clicking one and shift-clicking others, drag them all into your Logic project, and select <strong>Sampler Zone Per Note<\/strong> to instantly create a unique instrument out of those samples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Go to <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/BTDZklTJR0c?si=n-GiagVhQQfmuKv-&amp;t=146\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2:26 in the tutorial<\/a> to to see this tip in action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Recalling your recordings<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re noodling around in Logic Pro and forgot to hit record, just press <strong>Shift+R<\/strong> and it&#8217;ll recall what you played\u2014Logic is always listening. Optimizing your samples for MIDI<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you find a melodic sample you like on Splice, drag it into Logic&#8217;s Quick Sampler and select <strong>Optimize<\/strong>\u2014Logic will analyze the audio and place it on the correct key so you can play it out on <a href=\"https:\/\/splice.com\/blog\/what-is-a-midi-keyboard\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">your MIDI keyboard.<\/a> Selecting <strong>Follow Tempo<\/strong> ensures the sample won&#8217;t speed up when you go to a higher octave or slow down at a lower one. Triggering chords<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to experiment with chords in a different way, go to <strong>MIDI Effects<\/strong> and select <strong>Chord Trigger<\/strong>\u2014this will play full chords when you press a single note. To capture all the chord information as MIDI, select <strong>Record MIDI to Track Here<\/strong> in the Chord Trigger settings. Aligning tracks to your grooves<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Last but not least, if you&#8217;re looking to rhythmically sync different parts across your arrangement, click on a track that you want to be the main groove and press <strong>Option+T<\/strong> to open the <strong>Groove Track<\/strong> window. From there, connect other tracks to it, and they&#8217;ll align to that groove automatically.
