To explore this new style, we&#8217;re\u00a0going to walk\u00a0you through creating your own Synthwave pad in 6 easy steps.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 1.<\/strong> <strong>OSC Wavetables<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Click <strong>File<\/strong> and create a new sound in Massive. Turn on <strong>OSC1<\/strong> and<strong> OSC2<\/strong> and change the wavetable to <strong>pulse-saw PWM<\/strong> on both. Voicing<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nClick on the <strong>Voicing<\/strong> tab, change the <strong>Unisono<\/strong> value to 4 (to avoid clipping massive&#8217;s output, turn down the master knob to around 9 \u2019o&#8217;clock).<\/p>\n<p>In the <strong>Unisono Spread<\/strong> section, turn on <strong>Pitch Cutoff<\/strong> and increase the number in the left-hand box to 0.10 by clicking and dragging upwards. Filter Section<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nIn the filter\u00a0section, turn on <strong>Filter 1<\/strong> and change the filter type to <strong>Daft<\/strong>. We&#8217;re choosing the <strong>Daft filter<\/strong> as it adds a thicker analog sounding presence compared to the regular <strong>Lowpass 2<\/strong> filter with this particular sound.\u00a0Now drag the <strong>Mix<\/strong> slider upward to the <strong>Mix 1<\/strong> position. Envelopes<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nClick on the 4th envelope <strong>4 Env<\/strong>, which is the default amp envelope in Massive. Lets soften up the attack, set the <strong>Attack<\/strong> knob to about 9\u2019o\u2019clock. Effects<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nAt this stage the patch sounds a bit dull so lets add some dynamics by use of effects. Turn on <strong>FX 1 <\/strong>and select\u00a0<strong>Flanger Positive<\/strong> from the pull down menu by clicking on the tiny downward arrow. For this patch we chose a slower rate with a small amount of feedback but you can adjust to taste.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/splice.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/05-FX-01.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2405 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/splice.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/05-FX-01.png\" alt=\"05 FX -01\" width=\"293\" height=\"122\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 293px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 293\/122;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Next we&#8217;ll add some reverb to the sound. Turn on <strong>FX 2<\/strong> and choose <strong>Reverb<\/strong> from the pull-down menu. Adjust settings to taste. Here we set the <strong>Density<\/strong> at maximum value and adjusted the <strong>Color<\/strong> to a very bright setting for this particular sound.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/splice.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/05-FX-02.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2406 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/splice.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/05-FX-02.png\" alt=\"05 FX -02\" width=\"295\" height=\"120\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 295px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 295\/120;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Next add some complimentary noise using <strong>S&amp;H<\/strong> on <strong>Insert 1<\/strong>. We&#8217;re using <strong>S&amp;H<\/strong> instead of the regular <strong>Noise OSC<\/strong> because the <strong>S&amp;H<\/strong> gives the pad a more sparkly top end. Set the <strong>Pitch<\/strong> knob around 2 &#8216;o&#8217;clock and adjust <strong>Dry\/Wet<\/strong> to taste.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/splice.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/05-SH-03.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2407 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/splice.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/05-SH-03.png\" alt=\"05 S#H 03\" width=\"149\" height=\"121\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 149px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 149\/121;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Step 6. LFO Modulation<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nLastly lets add <strong>LFO<\/strong> modulation to the panning which adds subtle movement within the stereo field. Click and drag <strong>5 LFO<\/strong>&#8216;s crosshair on to the first empty modulation slot under the pan knob.
