This week we had an opportunity to catch up with Australian producer Jordan Mitchell<\/a><\/strong>, better known to the Splice community as jormit2000<\/a>. We asked him to tell us about his release Glitch<\/a><\/strong> and to show us how Splice fits into his production workflow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

What inspired you to share this track with the Splice community?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

<\/i>I wanted to make something different, something that people would look at as being unique. I wanted people to enjoy my track and also be an inspiration to those looking for ideas. When I released the track, I wanted to see what ideas the Splice community<\/a> could offer to make the song better and to help me improve my production skills. I love how you can download the project files of other songs on Splice because it helps you to learn about how other producers make their music. I wanted to give back to the community by sharing my track to everyone and allowing them to see how I make my music. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tell us about your approach to production. Any favorite sample packs or plugins?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

With this track, I started with a simple beat, which you can hear right at the beginning. This was made with a few various percussion instruments. I then went on and picked a chord progression and wrote a melody to go with it. I used Massive<\/a> from Native Instruments<\/a> to make all the synth and bass sounds as it is an amazing synth and easy to use. I used the drums from Virtual Riot\u2019s sample pack which is really good for punchy drums. For the mix down, I put a high-pass filter on everything and compressed the drums for more punch. The most important thing when mixing is to get the right balance between the tracks so that you can distinguish between all of the sounds properly. Always remember that less is more when mixing. And always try your music out on multiple systems to make sure it sounds good!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

You\u2019re primarily an Ableton Live user. What is it about Live that makes it your DAW of choice?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I’ve used Ableton Live<\/a> from the start of my production journey because I’ve always liked the way it looks and feels. I’ve tried other DAWs, like FL Studio<\/a>, but I’ve always stuck to what I know the best. I really don\u2019t think that the DAW you choose affects your music that much, and it’s ultimately your own decision to go with what feels right for you. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

How has Splice had an impact on your production process or workflow?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Splice is one the most amazing discoveries I’ve made in my musical journey. I have really enjoyed using it because it allows you to see how other people make their sounds. I’ve learned a lot from the projects on Splice and have discovered some amazing artists. I love the fact that all your projects that you make are stored on the cloud in case you lose them. I love Splice Sounds<\/a> as it solves the problem of buying expensive sample packs which are filled with sounds that you would never actually use. It’s so great to be able to select only the sounds that you need.<\/span><\/div>\n\n\n\n

What are some of your musical influences at the moment?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
One of my favorite artists right now are Pegboard Nerds. I just love the way that every song they make is so unique and different and that they experiment with different sounds while always keeping the quality top-notch. They are without a doubt some of the most talented artists I know. One of my other main influences is Savant. His music is just so funky and different, and he’s able to consistently make good music.<\/span><\/div>\n\n\n\n

You\u2019ve had quite a few users in the community Splice the project file for \u201cGlitch\u201d \u2013 what do you hope that they\u2019ll do with it?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I really hope that the Splice community can improve on it and make it amazing. I also hope that other up-and-coming producers can learn something from it. I would love it if someone were to remix it. It really isn\u2019t finished yet, so it can always be worked on and added to. Music is all about sharing and spreading ideas and feelings, so hopefully this track can do just that.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where do you think that your music is headed next?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I think my music is headed somewhere better. I want more people to listen to it and get inspired to do something. But really my music could go anywhere!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
