Nah, my dude. Let\u2019s discuss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/splice.com\/blog\/3-levels-of-sampling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Sampling has been around for ages (opens in a new tab)\">Sampling has been around for <em>ages<\/em><\/a>\u2014almost as long as those leftovers in your fridge (it\u2019s time to throw those out, for real). For some reason\u2014ahem, egos and pride\u2014sampling and using loops get a bad rep. Haters will say it&#8217;s cheating and that you\u2019re not a &#8216;real musician&#8217; if you use samples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But samples are tools, period. Other industries and professions use tools, right? Or is it alright if I book your next surgery with the doctor who only uses his hands?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Example:<\/strong> Multi-platinum producer Fyre produced the recent viral hit, &#8220;Conceited&#8221; by Flo Milli, using solely Audeobox sounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><iframe src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/track\/02nTpchENdZ4Nm8AfTmrFv?si=af9d8004ff4142f6\" width=\"100%\" height=\"80\" frameborder=\"0\" allowtransparency=\"true\" allow=\"encrypted-media\"><\/iframe><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Long story short, there are <em>tons<\/em> of creative ways to use samples. Long story longer? Stick around and I&#8217;ll introduce you to four types of sample-using producers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. The straight shooter<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Ah yes, the straight shooter. We know them and we love them, because pretty much all producers\u2014from beginners to industry pros\u2014can relate to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This producer uses samples &#8216;straight out of the box,&#8217; so to speak. Sometimes, a loop is just perfect as-is\u2014it just needs to be filled in. Is that a crime? Hell no. We can\u2019t all be Mozart, but that shouldn\u2019t stop you from creating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Example:<\/strong> Check out <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"this loop (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/splice.com\/sounds\/samples\/eac9ef4f4d5a469eadd5bcaf3e61fe3596ce43a9998e1bac37913bbe6c73a5cd\/-\" target=\"_blank\">this loop<\/a> from <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"the Rage sample pack: (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/splice.com\/sounds\/audeobox\/rage\/\" target=\"_blank\">the <em>Rage<\/em> sample pack.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio alignwide\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/splice.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Audeobox-example.mp3\" preload=\"auto\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8230;And here&#8217;s how the straight shooter might apply this sound in the context of a full production:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio alignwide\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/splice.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Rage-demo-Straight-shooter.mp3\" preload=\"auto\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>You know what I love about the straight shooter? Everything. They&#8217;re a real gem\u2014a programming, puzzle-building gem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. The manipulator<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The manipulator probably has more plugins than Drake has number-one hits, and uses them to reverse, flip, chop, and stretch samples. The result? A brand-spanking-new sound, loop, or one-shot that&#8217;s 100% unique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Is it always good? Nah, but experiments don\u2019t always work out (bet you didn\u2019t know that bubble wrap was supposed to be wallpaper\u2014for real, Google it). My point is, sometimes you have to mess around, experiment, and fail in order to get to that lightbulb moment. The manipulator isn\u2019t afraid of failing\u2014or is at least in therapy to work through it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Example:<\/strong> Below, Audeobox\u2019s chief A&amp;R guy, Skimmy, manipulates samples using <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"LFO Tool. The butcher<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The butcher probably shouldn\u2019t be trusted with a real knife, but virtually slices and dices samples into juicy little one-shots, or even into brand-new loops. It takes a certain level of skill and creativity to be able to do what the Audeobox team likes to call &#8216;elite sample chopping&#8217;\u2014repurposing a sound into an entirely new composition. The tracer<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The tracer uses the vibe of a sample to lock in on an emotion, but cuts the sample from the final product faster than your ex cut you out of their life, despite you giving them everything they ever asked for (whatever).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The end result is a whole new piece of art.
